Introduction

Summer has always been a time for summer projects, and so I have decided that my summer project this year will be a reflection blog as I re-read C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia. (I have read the entire series once before, and portions of it twice or three times.) The goal of this blog is not literary criticism or ensuring the highest degree of blog-prose. (I intend to make typos that I won't correct, and if you seek my highest form of writing, you will be utterly disappointed.) And it's definitely not aimed at the reader of dry academic writing. Basically, this is a fun summer project, something that I feel like I can complete (sense of accomplishment, wootwoot), and something that interests me. I would be delighted if you would follow along with me (but I'm not forcing anyone, my lovely wife included).

This is how this blog will be organized:
  • Each blog post will be dedicated to one chapter of C.S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia. (Henceforth, TCON, because I'm lazy). These are the 7 books that comprise TCON:

    • The Magician's Nephew
    • The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
    • The Horse and His Boy
    • Prince Caspian
    • The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
    • The Silver Chair
    • The Last Battle

  • Each blog post will contain a brief summary of the chapter, in case anyone wishes to follow along with the blog without also reading the entire story.

  • Each blog post will focus on one specific aspect of the related chapter. That aspect could be anything at all--it could be related to characterization or theme--it could relate the chapter to another book, story, or genre. It could be a connection to my personal experience, or a connection to a societal topic or issue. Basically, anything. But there will be one topic per chapter, just to keep things focused.

  • I will be using the following text as a reference, and will henceforth only list page numbers.Lewis, C.S., and Pauline Baynes. The Complete Chronicles of Narnia. New York: HarperCollins, 2000. Print.
I hope that you will follow along with me as I re-read The Chronicles of Narnia. Please feel free to discuss, comment, praise, or object. I look forward to the conversation, and to re-reading this outstanding tale.
